Light

The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned. - Matthew 4:16

The season of Epiphany is upon us. This season of the church year focuses on the revealed light that has come into the world in our incarnate Savior, Jesus Christ. The life of this Light drew the world to Him. When Jesus was lifted high on the cross the love and full glory of God was lifted up for all to see. Those who lift their eyes to behold their Savior on the tree also behold the new life that sprung from the empty tomb that first Easter morning. At morning light the whole world began to know that a new and eternal day had dawned. This eternal day was won for all people. Light has dawned as we sit in this darkened world, surrounded by the shadow of death. The Gospel that Jesus Christ died and rose to defeat the shadow of death now shines among those whom He has called out of darkness into His light. This is the light that shines from His Hill Country.

It is hard not to feel like the darkness is going to swallow us up in this world that is consumed in it. Yet we stand as a beacon of Christ’s light in a fallen world. We are beginning our first new members class here at Hill Country. We thank the Lord and giver of light that He continues to grow His church in this place and make His light shine among men. The darkness can never overcome the light of Christ. We continue to cling to His light in the darkness. He will preserve us until He comes again to bring unending light. Please pray with us that our adult catechesis class will shed the full light of the gifts of Christ upon its attendee so that she may come into full fellowship with the saints of Hill Country.
