“So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.” - 1 Corinthians 3:7
Hill Country is thrilled to have welcomed Derek Jackson, our first adult catechumen, into membership on June 28, 2026. Shortly after Easter, he walked into Hill Country on a drizzly Sunday morning with a Lutheran Service Book protected by a plastic bag in hand. He discovered the doctrine of our Lutheran Confessions online and decided he needed to find a place that loved the liturgy and took the Sacraments seriously. He got on the LCMS church locator, found us, and never looked back. Derek was hungry for the whole counsel of God that centers around Christ crucified for our trespasses and raised for our justification. He was so hungry as he dug into Luther's Small Catechism, that each class took a good 3 hours!
Derek was eager to join in the fellowship of the altar here at Hill Country. He boldly and publicly renounced the devil and all of his works. He proclaimed that he holds the prophetic and apostolic Scriptures, the Holy Bible, to be the inspired Word of God. He joined our confession that the doctrine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, as drawn from Holy Scripture, is faithful and true. He intends to faithfully hear God's Word, partake in Christ's body and blood regularly, and live as a baptized child of God, redeemed in the blood of Christ. We hold all things in common. To God alone be the glory!
It is with great joy that Hill Country has received Derek into membership. He and his family have been a great blessing to our family. If you would like to find out more about membership to Hill Country, feel free to contact us. Pastor Bieri would love to talk with you. Please pray that God would bless Derek and his family as their faith in Christ is nurtured and that our Lord would continue to give growth to His Hill Country.
